Our Construction and Civil Engineering full-time programmes are a fantastic start for any budding tradesperson. With so many exciting careers available within the construction industry sometimes it is hard to narrow it down immediately. However with our full-time programmes give you the opportunity to have-a-go at a range of trades to find the best fit for you before laying the foundations of your career.

Whilst on course we will work with you to build your knowledge and skills and ensure that you have the confidence to move on to an apprenticeship programme as soon as you are ready. We will develop your understanding and practical skills by ensuring you understand how to safely use, mark, cut and set out the materials associated with your chosen trade as well as how to work as a valued member of a team and be able to understand the different forms of communication used in construction.

During each of our full-time programmes, you will have the opportunity to gain a range of essential short courses to prepare you for the workplace including First Aid, Learner Well-Being, Career Planning, Leadership, Budgeting, Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety, Prevent, British Values and Functional Skills.

On completion of your chosen full-time programme, we match each individual with a top local employer to offer the next stepping stone on your career path.

As a trainee bricklayer you will begin to learn the essential skills required to build the fundamental foundations of your new career. As part of our programme you will learn to calculate the quantities
of materials required, build new structures following specific drawings and produce brickwork to the required standard within the specified tolerance levels.

At Skills Group, we pride ourselves on keeping our learners safe at all times, therefore due to the high standards of health and safety and the high risk within this industry you will also complete an
in-depth health and safety project to ensure you are site ready and promote safety at all times.

Our carpentry and joinery programme equips you with the vital skills and knowledge required to kick-start your new career. As a trainee you will learn how to calculate the quantities of materials
required for the task in hand, cut materials to length, scribe and produce mitred and half lap joints and install as instructed. As part of this programme you will learn to install a range of fundamental
structures such as skirting, architrave and door linings.

We pride ourselves on maintaining high standards of health and safety and ensuring our learners are as safe as can be at all times. Due to the risks associated with this industry, each young person will
complete an in-depth health and safety project to promote awareness of the hazards, safe transportation of materials and how to mitigate the risks.

Our full-time multi-trade programme provides each young person the opportunity to gain a range of construction skills and to specialise in key areas of interest. Each individual will learn how to calculate quantities of materials required to complete a specific task, cut materials to size and create fundamental structures. The trainee will be able to choose specialist units in plastering, carpentry and joinery, tiling and painting and decorating.

We believe that health and safety is of the utmost importance and due to this each learner will complete an in-depth health and safety project, where they will learn to identify potential hazards, minimise risk and ensure they promote safe practises at all times.

This is the perfect programme to kick-start your career in plastering by instilling the skills and knowledge required to succeed. As a plastering trainee you will learn to understand and follow drawing specifications, calculate materials required to complete the required task, transport materials to the job and install access equipment (where required). On completion of the programme each individual will be able to prepare and fix plasterboard and tape and joint. You will also learn to prepare a background ready for plaster and apply plaster to produce a smooth finish.

Skills Group prides itself on prioritising health and safety and due to this each young person will complete an in-depth health and safety project which highlights the risks associated with this
industry and how to reduce these.

As a groundworks trainee you will build upon your existing skills and knowledge to gain an essential skillset to ensure you become employment ready as soon as possible. This programme will support each young person to be able to calculate the materials required to complete any given task, mix materials to create the right consistency and lay a small floor area with semi-dry floor screed. You will also learn to read and understand drawings, create brick structures to the required tolerance levels and on completion of a task ensure that your working area is clean, tidy and free from hazards.
