Government's COVID-19 Response: Summer 2021

On Monday 19th July, we will begin stage 4 of the Government’s Roadmap, which will include the following:

  • All remaining restrictions on social contact and life events (such as weddings) will be removed
  • All settings will now be open including nightclubs and large scale music and sporting events
  • All legal restrictions on wearing a mask will be lifted, however these are still recommended for crowded locations or where you come into contact with people you don’t know
  • All social distancing rules will be lifted, except in limited circumstances
  • No longer necessary to work from home if you didn’t before
  • Self-isolating will remain in place
  • Staff and customers will be encouraged to clean their hands and surfaces that they touch regularly
  • Businesses will be encouraged to continue using QR codes to scan in but this will no longer be a legal requirement
  • Education settings will no longer be required to deliver education and training in consistent groups (‘bubbles’)
  • No restrictions on in-person teaching and learning in universities
  • In care homes, each resident will be able to have five named visitors

The Government will also revisit the need for under 18s to self-isolate, which is likely to come into effect later in the summer.
