Apprenticeships in Hairdressing and Barbering

Apprenticeships in hairdressing and barbering open up a world of creativity and artistic flair; bringing about a range of salon services and meeting the needs and expectations of a wide variety of clients. The salon experience is unique for each client, and although you will be highly-skilled in all aspects of hairdressing and barbering, ultimately, you may decide to specialise in providing specific technical services.

As an apprentice you will learn to work safely and contribute to a busy and highly complex salon or barber shop environment. You will develop your manual dexterity, coordination and be able to provide technically brilliant salon services. You will be an extremely reliable and dependable team worker with excellent communication skills to meet the needs of your clients.

You will complete three stages during your hairdressing and barbering apprenticeship journey; stage one is learning the skills, knowledge and behaviours you need, and collect evidence along the way to demonstrate how you have applied them to your practice.

Stage two is reached when you have gathered all the evidence needed, and together with your employer and Skills Group mentor, agree you are ready for end-point assessment. This is called assessment gateway. The final stage is to book your end-point assessment. End-point assessment requirements vary from one apprenticeship to another, but are always carried out by an independent assessor.

There really are endless opportunities to develop your career after completing an apprenticeship in hairdressing and barbering; you may choose to progress onto a higher level apprenticeship to develop your skills, move into a more senior role or undertake training to teach the next generation of creative talent.
