Preston Plant Ltd are looking to employ a groundworker to join their family run company in Torbay.
The Apprentice’s Role
The successful candidates will gain experience within a construction site environment, as a Ground worker. Preforming duties such as laying out modular pavements, setting out secondary dimensional work controls, laying kerbs and channels, correctly use suitable tools and equipment required for each task, preparing sub-surfaces, installation of drainage and concreting and constructing roads and pathways
This role will also include general site labouring duties as required during the working day. Working on various locations in and around the Torbay area at the moment but possibly extending into Plymouth and Cornwall area. Transport to sites further afield will be provided. This company also provides professional training and high quality work for both new residential builds and commercial projects. The ideal candidate will have some knowledge of the construction environment, ideally within Groundworks or general labouring but its not essential.
They are are a family run Groundworks business that work on projects large and small all around the Torbay area.
They specialise in both commercial and residential quantity surveyance and all aspects of Groundworks.
No job is too big or too small.
Skills Required
You will need to be able to cope with the physical demands of the role. Good communication is required to work well within a small friendly team. You must always be on time and prompt with the work you carry out.
Personal Qualities
Someone looking to build a fantastic career within the Construction industry. Hard working, willing to work outside in all weathers. Transport is not essential due to local sites.
Prior Qualifications
Qualifications desired for this role include GCSE's grades A* – E in Maths and English, or equivalent qualifications.
The Apprenticeship in Groundworks consists of:
As part of the apprenticeship programme, attendance is required at our Skills Group training centre for one day per week. All other aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site by the employer. You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated Skills Group assessor, who will monitor your progress during your apprenticeship training.
Whilst at the Skills Group training centre, you will learn the necessary skills and gain experience to help you throughout your role. Part of your training will be knowledge and theory based, whilst the rest will be practical.
As an additional qualification you will also achieve your Emergency First Aid and Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
As part of your apprenticeship Skills Group will also support you to complete your online CSCS test, which will enable you to apply for your CSCS Card. This shows that you are at the required competent level to carry out site work with the employer.
