Apprenticeships in Childcare and Education

Apprenticeships in the childcare and education are an excellent choice if you want to work in a sector that supports the development of children and young people of all ages. There are many exciting career pathways, with many roles to choose from in a range of settings: nurseries, children’s centres, pre-schools, primary schools, secondary schools. Some of which are specialist settings and may be of particular interest if you are keen on working with children and young people that have special educational needs.

As an apprentice you will learn to demonstrate care and compassion, honesty and integrity and effectively contribute to the learning and development of children and young people; this will include recognising signs that a child or young person is in danger, at risk of harm or abuse and contribute to the health and safety of all.

You will complete three stages during your childcare and education apprenticeship journey; stage one is learning the skills, knowledge and behaviours you need, and collect evidence along the way to demonstrate how you have applied them to your practice.

Stage two is reached when you have gathered all the evidence needed, and together with your employer and Skills Group mentor, agree you are ready for end-point assessment. This is called assessment gateway. The final stage is to book your end-point assessment. End-point assessment requirements vary from one apprenticeship to another, but are always carried out by an independent assessor.

There are endless opportunities to develop your career after completing an apprenticeship in childcare or education; you may choose to progress on to a more senior role, further your own learning or enrol onto a higher level apprenticeship, foundation degree or teaching qualifications.
