SPL Nurseries are looking for a Level 3 Childcare Apprentice to join their friendly team in Exeter.
The Apprentices Role
Our nursery apprentices will be working alongside our nursery nurses in a nurturing and enabling environment, working with children aged 0-5. You will experience working in three of our unique settings. In our settings, you will work hands on with the children helping their learning development and daily care.
Your knowledge from the Level 2 and the hands on work will be the underpinning knowledge you need to assist you with your Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification, that you gain as you work. You will have support from our Apprentice Support, Amy Tucker, who will work alongside you with your studies and work life.
After completion of your level 2, you will be a key person at your normal setting. Each key person has responsibilities for a small group of children to help these children feel safe and cared for. The key person will be the direct contact for the child in the nursery.
As you are working in one of our three settings, the successful candidate will also have a passion to complete their studies in their own time, whilst gaining hands-on experience by working full time to complete them.
Working Hours: 32 – 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 7:30am and 6pm, hours may vary each week depending on the requirements of the nursery.
Wages: £370 – £386 per week. While they have their Level 2 pay will be: £19,240-£20,072/year for full time roles, once their Level 3 is completed, their pay will go up.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.
SPL Nurseries have four nurseries in Devon, 3 of which are in Exeter who we are wanting Apprentices for.
Past Apprentices
We have had many of our team complete both qualifications with us, enjoying their studies whilst working alongside the children. The ones who do their level 2, tend to do their level 3 also. We currently have 11 staff across the 4 nurseries doing their level 2 and 5 staff doing their level 3.
We have approximately 50 successful candidates doing their qualifications over nearly 10 years with Skills.
Skills Required
Level 3 Apprentice
The role of the level 3 is to provide high quality care for the children in a nurturing environment.
They will be responsible for the day to day care of the children, this will include,
*Being responsible for supporting the children’s individual learning and carrying out activities
*Supporting the children during meal times and snack times
*Communicating with the staff and parents
*Assisting to the children’s personal care routines
*Ensuring that all policies and procedures are adhered to and followed to ensure the safety of the children
*Supporting staff with observations and planning for the children and sharing these with the parents
*Becoming a key worker for a small group of children, keeping up to date observations and assessment for these children and liasing with the parents about their children’s learning
*Planning and carrying out activities for the children based on their learning needs

Prior Qualifications
Qualifications required for this role are desired but not essential. They include GCSE grades 9-2 (A*-E) in Maths and English or equivalent qualifications such as functional skills.
The Apprenticeship in Child Care includes:
Most aspects of the qualification and training will be delivered at your workplace where you will be supported throughout your training by your employer. You will have regular visits every 6 to 12 weeks from your designated assessor who will help you, and monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.
As an additional qualification you will also achieve Emergency and Paediatric First Aid, and a Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
