Sir Robert Geffery’s Pre-School is currently looking for either a Level 2 or Level 3 Early Years Apprentice to join their team in Landrake, near Saltash.

The Apprentice’s Role

This is an Early Years Apprenticeship position, supporting children’s development within all areas of learning from the age of 18 months to 4 years. To work within a small team and take on various roles from supporting children in their development to setting up and planning for activities, cleaning and sorting equipment.

As part of your role, your main tasks will include:

  • Assisting Early Years Practitioners in supporting the learning and development of children aged from 18 months to school age
  • Assisting in setting up the room for activities and organising outdoor activities
  • Cleaning and packing resources away making sure the environment is safe and secure
  • Encourage children to explore their creativity and emotional well being

Working Hours: You will be required to work Monday to Friday, 8:45am to 3:30pm.

Wages: £4.81 per hour, National Apprenticeship Wage.

Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Sir Robert Gefferys Pre-School is based in Landrake, near Saltash. They support the learning and development of children aged from 18 months to school age.

It is a term-time only setting and encourages children to explore their creativity and emotional well being.

Past Apprentices

This employer is very keen to utilise the apprenticeship programme to recruit new long term staff. In the past they have employed two apprentices, one of which has progressed through their level 2 and level 3, and have now moved on to their Foundation Degree in Early Years.

Skills Required

The employer is looking for someone with good communication skills, who is willing to join a busy team. They will need to have good timekeeping skills, be able to adhere to all of the settings policies and procedures and have a genuine interest in working with children and young people.

Personal Qualities

In order to be successful for this role, the apprentice will need to be outgoing, creative and confident. They will also need to have a keen interest in the early years education sector.

Prior Qualifications

Qualifications required for this role, include GCSE grades A*-E (9/2) in Maths and English or equivalent qualifications such as Functional Skills.

Additional Requirements

In order to be successful for this position, you will need to complete an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check. This will be arranged by the employer after successfully completing the initial interview.

Level 2 or Level 3 Early Years Standard Apprenticeship

Most aspects of the qualification and training will be delivered at your workplace where you will be supported throughout your training by your employer. You will have regular visits every 6 to 12 weeks from your designated assessor who will help you and monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.

As an additional qualification, you will also achieve Emergency and Paediatric First Aid, and a Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
