Plympton St Maurice Childcare Centre are looking for a Level 2 Childcare Apprentice to join their friendly team in Plympton.

The Apprentices Role

Be aware of and comply with, policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting concerns to an appropriate person. In addition, you will need to ensure all children have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.

• Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required
• Support for Children
• Supervise and support children ensuring their safety and access to learning
• Contribute to learning journeys through observations
• Establish good relationships with children, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs
• Encourage children to interact with others and engage in activities
• Assist with supervision of children out of session times including before and after sessions, and at lunchtimes
• Support the Staff Team
• Prepare the nursery as directed for sessions and clear afterwards and assist with display of pupils work
• Be aware of children’s progress/achievements/problems and report to other staff members as agreed
• Support the staff team in managing children’s behaviour, reporting any difficulties as appropriate
• Gather and report information from/to parents/carers as directed

Working Hours: 7.30am-4.30pm Mon-Friday with one day off to attend college

Wages: £192.40 per week, based on 40 hours per week. £4.81 per hour.

Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Plympton St Maurice Childcare Centre offers affordable childcare for children aged 3 months to 11 years. They are open 51 weeks of the year from 7.00am-6pm Monday – Friday and offer a variety of sessions to allow flexibility.

The Childcare Centre consists of two huts, linked by a bright glass conservatory style corridor. It stands in the spacious and beautiful grounds of Plympton St Maurice Primary School, overlooked by woods; Plympton Castle and Plympton St Maurice Church are close by.

Prior Qualifications

Qualifications required for this role are desired but not essential. They include GCSE grades 9-2 (A*-E) in Maths and English or equivalent qualifications such as functional skills.

The Apprenticeship in Child Care includes:

• Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Standard

Most aspects of the qualification and training will be delivered at your workplace where you will be supported throughout your training by your employer. You will have regular visits every 6 to 12 weeks from your designated assessor who will help you, and monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.

As an additional qualification you will also achieve Emergency and Paediatric First Aid, and a Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
