Blisland Primary Academy are looking to appoint a forward thinking, positive and innovative Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprentice who will be working within their KS2 class.

The right candidate will be flexible, friendly and committed to driving children’s learning forward across Key Stage 2. Blisland Primary School will be able to give excellent support to the development of the appointed individual in completing their apprenticeship.

Apprentice’s Role

Apprenticeships combine work with practical, on and off-the-job, training and study. An apprentice will be employed for 15 months, working alongside experienced staff to gain the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to be a fully competent Teaching Assistant. They are provided with monthly training from our highly skilled teachers, and provided with our bespoke sessions to ensure apprentices understand every aspect of their apprenticeship, and, to help build the portfolio of evidence required for the apprentices Professional Discussion at End-Point Assessment.

You will be expected to:

  • Support planning and resourcing of sessions,
  • To teach and assess individuals and groups and communicate effectively with learners and staff during this process.
  • Support children with additional social and/or emotional needs
  • Support the teacher with management of the classroom
  • Prepare and maintain resources and displays
  • Attend and assist in extra-curricular activities and lunch-time duties
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to your apprenticeship

Working Hours: 30 hours per week, Full Time which also incorporates 20% off the job training as part of your apprenticeship.

Wages: £144.30 per week based on 30 hours a week (£4.81 per hour, National Minimum Apprenticeship Wage)

Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Blisland School has a nursery which caters for children from the start of the term of their third birthday. There is one infant class and one junior class, all staffed by caring outstanding practitioners. They have three playgrounds and a field and regularly visit Forest School with the children and believe that outdoor learning is key to children's wider development.

All children have access to laptops and ipads and in December 2011, Ofsted inspected Blisland School and recognised them as Outstanding. The Ofsted inspection team said, "The school is a happy place. Through the strong family atmosphere which permeates the school, pupils learn to take very good care of each other. As a result of excellent teaching throughout the school, pupils achieve very well and attain significantly above average by the end of Year 6".

Blisland School is a very special place offering a unique, quality education. They are part of a very supportive academy Trust: 'Bridge Schools' and work well with all of their other 13 schools in Cornwall.

Skills Group have 4, Level 3 Teaching Assistants, at present with Delaware Primary School which is part of the Bridge Trust which Blisland Primary Academy also belong to. The Teaching Assistants are well supported within the school which is of a high standard.

Skills Required

  • Ability to listen, follow instructions and set up activities.
  • Be able to support students in the classroom helping them to learn and progress.
  • Be able to communicate effectively with young people to support learning and development

  • You should be calm, confident and demonstrate a professional approach in your dealings with young people, staff, parents and external agencies

Prior Qualifications

  • GCSE or equivalent grades A-E (9-2) or equivalent is desired but not essential.
  • An Enhanced DBS is required which can be supported by Skills Group

Over the 15- 18 month, Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship standard, you will work towards achieving the Behaviours, Skills, and Knowledge of the course. Training will be provided with Skills Group where you will be allocated a highly skilled assessor and attend training sessions. You will have regular visits at the workplace from your designated assessor to observe your progress and competence as well as regular reviews to ensure that you are getting the most out of your apprenticeship.

Training will also be provided to enable you to achieve Level 2 functional skills in maths and English (if required)
